The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) indicates that there may be in long-term use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) in hypomagnesaemia.
The prescription high-dose PPI as esomeprazole, Dexlansoprazol, Lansoprazole, omeprazole, pantoprazole and rabeprazole include in long-term use (usually one year) are at increased risk of hypomagnesemia. In about a quarter of the cases of magnesium deficiency is not compensated by magnesium substitution, this had to be sold PPI. In the Summary of PPIs an appropriate warning is received.
case of OTC PPIs, which are lower dose and only for a two-week treatment up to three times provided in states the FDA on the risk of hypomagnesemia as very low.
