roflumilast in COPD admitted

Berlin - The pharmaceutical company Nycomed has the EU-wide approval for its drug Daxas (roflumilast) was obtained - a once-daily tablet for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The drug is first used in Germany and Britain on the market.
roflumilast is one of the new class of inhibitors of phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE-4). The enzyme activated cells in inflammatory reactions in the lung. By inhibiting PDE-4 reduces inflammation associated with COPD and improves lung function. However
is the active ingredient as opposed to non-emergency bronchodilator therapy. The drug is contrary to severe COPD maintenance therapy indicated in connection with chronic bronchitis.
Nycomed will be marketing the drug in Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Canada in cooperation with the U.S. company Merck. For Great Britain, Merck has exclusive marketing rights.
The company Forest Laboratories Nycomed entered into distribution agreements for the U.S.. There is however still in the approval of the competent authority. Just weeks ago, the FDA had asked Nycomed which to provide additional information and analysis to severe COPD patients.
